COURSE PRE-RIDE!!

On Saturday July 22 Xterra Ambassador Roger Villmow will host a course ride.  Please meet at the Brush Creek Trail Head at 10am for this epic adventure.  If this weren't enough, Roger will have schwag to give you just for showing up.  Directions are as follows:

From Gunnison follow Hwy 135 North/West towards Crested Butte.  At about
the 25.5 mile marker look for the flags and signs on your right (2 miles
South/East of Crested Butte).  Turn right on Brush Creek Road (CR 738)
towards Skyland and The Crested Butte Country Club.  Follow Brush Creek
road North.  Just past a sharp right hand curve you will see the left turn
on to Skyland Drive - this is where the race venue is, but please don't
turn in there for the pre-ride.  Continue up Brush Creek for another
couple of miles (the road will turn to dirt) and look for "Brush
Creek Trail Head" on your left.  There is a parking lot and you will
ride from here.  You will still ride the entire course but you will be
starting/parking at this location.

Please do not enter the Skyland residential community, or go up to the
lake.  This is on private land.  The owners have been very accommodating
to all of us in allowing us to race there on the 30th - but we have agreed
not to use the venue prior to that date.  The future of this venue will be
jeopardized if we fail to adhere to this request - please help us keep it.

XTERRA RACE CLINIC AND NUTIRTION CLINIC:

Please join us for two exciting clinics at 4pm on Saturday at the bank during packet pick up.  Xterra pros will present on everything you wanted to know about training and racing.  In addition, Rhonda Mayo a Carmichael Training Systems Senior Coach will speak to you about your nutrition or lack there of.

VENUE / COURSE:

The course is set in and around Skyland and The Crested Butte Country Club, near the Town of Crested Butte.  Follow Hwy 135 North/West towards Crested Butte.  At about the 25.5 mile marker look for the flags and signs on your right (2 miles South/East of Crested Butte).  Turn right on Brush Creek Road (CR 738) in to Skyland and The Crested Butte Country Club.  Follow Brush Creek to just past a sharp right hand curve and then turn left on to Skyland Drive.  Follow Skyland Drive up to Grant Lake.

SWIM:  Grant Lake at Skyland.  Water temperature is expected to be in the mid to high 60's.  WETSUITS ARE REQUIRED.

BIKE:  A mix of single track, pavement, and dirt roads.  You will leave Grant Lake and follow Country Club Drive to Divine Trail.  Following Divine, you will climb to the Upper Loop, then to the Upper Upper Loop and eventually drop down to Brush Creek Road.  You will take Brush Creek Road to Strand Hill, follow Strand Hill to the Canal Trail and back to Brush Creek.  Brush Creek will then return you to Skyland Drive and back up to the lake.

RUN:  Out of T2, you will start your climb on the same course as the bike.  Once on Upper Loop you will turn on to Whetstone Vista and follow this down to Brush Creek Road.  You will follow Brush Creek back to Skyland Drive and up to the Lake, circle the Lake and finish at the transition area.

THE COURSE IS ON PRIVATE LAND:

The private land owners in Skyland have allowed this event to take place.  Please respect their requests by adhering to the following:

PLEASE, No Dogs at the race venue, Park only in designated areas as shown by the parking marshals, no pre-swimming before event morning.  If you would like to pre-ride the course please respect the private land and parking regulations.  Do not ride or drive up to the private lake before race day - doing so puts our venue at risk.  Water is water - it's flat.  Do access the course via Divine Trail and the public access at the end of Country Club Drive (follow the signs to the Upper Loop).  Do use the portas on site - Do not pee in their yards.  I like to pee in the woods as much as the next guy, but I told these guys you would all be well behaved :-)

Following these requests will allow us to return to the venue again.  Thanks in advance for being good sports about it.

THE DOUBLE !

That's right, Crested Butte's own "Double".  Just like the famed combination of the IronMan World Championships and the Xterra World Championships on the following weekend, The Crested Butte Double will test you!  The event consists of The Grin and Bear It up-hill down-hill trail run on July 22nd , followed by the Crested Butte Bank Trails Triathlon on Sunday July 30, 2006.  Fastests combined time wins.  So, you may ask, what do I win?  Well, I don't know yet.  However, I will promise you a nice prize, and all the glory you can handle.  Local media will swarm you, and you will become a hero to many (and a curiosity to even more).  To enter the double, just enter both events and email me (Ashley) at triathlon@crestedbuttebank.com and I will put your name in with the select few of your crazed endurace peers for competition in The CB Double.
